Introduction
to Disciple Series Bible Study
Disciple Bible Outreach
The Disciple series Bible studies provide a structured approach
to reading the Bible. Each study requires a commitment of one
2.5 hour group meeting and at least 3-4 hours of independent
study each week. Disciple I should be considered a prerequisite
for the other disciple studies. While Disciple I provides a
comprehensive overview of the entire Bible, the other studies
provide a more in-depth look at a few books. Classes begin
in September each year. As planning begins in August, sign-up
sheets are set out at church. Classes are offered when there
is sufficient interest and when someone steps forward to lead
the class. The cost of each class is $50 per person. Please see Pastor Tom if a scholarship is needed.

other faiths. Graduates of Disciple 1 are welcome to take this
class.

prayer support for each other.

Disciple Second Generation Bible Study - Jesus in the Gospels
Duration: 30 weeks
Focus: This study looks at the way each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each of the Gospels. The Gospel of Mark provides the framework for the study and in most lessons provides the lead passage to which are added accounts of the same story or events from the other Gospels and supportive Scriptures from the Old Testament and other parts of the New Testament. Unlike the other Disciple studies, this study is not divided into lessons on the Old Testament and lessons on the New Testament; rather, daily assignments for most lessons include both Old Testament and New Testament passages. Graduates of Disciple 1 are welcome to take this class.
Commitments: Complete homework and attend weekly meetings. Provide
prayer support for each other. Cost is $50. Please see Pastor Tom is a scholarship is needed.

When: Sign-ups in August. Classes begin in September if there is interest and facilitators can be found.
Any existing or newly formed small group may take up this bible study at any time.
The Companions in Christ Series offers small groups a powerfully
transforming experience in spiritual formation. All resources in the series
explore classic spiritual practices, and invite participants to develop daily
patterns that open their lives to a deepening relationship with God and one
another. While the format remains the same throughout the volumes in the
series, the content of each resource is fresh, providing diverse, imaginative
settings and rich opportunities for new discovery.
Groups who have completed Companions in Christ: A Small-Group Experience in Spiritual
Formation are well prepared for additional resources in the series. Their experience
of classic spiritual practices and small-group community will enrich their exploration
of such challenging topics as forgiveness and blessedness. Although each resource in
the series is complete in itself, groups are encouraged to begin their journey with the
foundational 28-week Small-Group Experience in Spiritual Formation.

Companions in Christ - The Way of Forgiveness
The Way of Forgiveness, by Marjorie Thompson, uses scripture meditation as well as other spiritual practices to guide us through an 8-week exploration of the forgiven and forgiving life. A unique feature in "The Way of Forgiveness participant's book is the reproduction of Rembrandt's Return of the Prodigal Son. Over the course of the eight weeks, participants use the art as a focal point for reflection and discovery.
The Way of Forgiveness keeps God's grace and our blessedness before us, as we examine shame, guilt, and anger then turn to forgiveness and reconciliation. Following a preparatory meeting, the weekly themes include:
- Living in God's Blessing
- Releasing Shame and Guilt
- Facing Our Anger
- Transforming Anger
- Receiving God's Forgiveness
- Forgiving Others
- Seeking Reconciliation
- Becoming the Beloved Community
Commitments: Complete homework and attend weekly meetings. Provide
prayer support for each other.
